Currency & Economy
The official currency for Belize is the Belize Dollar (BZD; symbol Bz$). The exchange rate is approximately Bz$2 to US$1 and currency can be exchanged at most banks and hotels. ATMs in Belize generally do not accept foreign cards. Some businesses will accept dollars and American Express, MasterCard and Visa are accepted in many places.
Tourism is the number one industry followed by the exporting of marine products, citrus, cane sugar, bananas, and garments.
