“You do that like a local,” whispered a voice in the distance as I walked at the speed of a turtle, almost in a trance, after spending an hour relaxing in a hammock at the end of Colinda Cabin’s dock. It took me three days to finally catch up with the Belize island of Caye Caulker‘s motto “Go Slow,” and now I am totally ok with it.

Three days in Belize really makes you wonder how the average American can survive on only two weeks of vacation a year. As a freelance photographer, I have more opportunity to explore the world than most people, and I must say that I felt blessed each night as the ocean swallowed the sun at dusk. They call it magic hour for more than one reason.

Although photographs of the magic hour never trump seeing it in the flesh, I captured Belize’s sunset moments to treat my viewers, with the hope of activating them in thought, emotion, sensation, dream or escape – good or bad, a reaction proves my purpose is complete.
