“Exceeds Great Expectations”
Reviewed July 10, 2012
My wife and I spent the first several days of our honeymoon at Ka’ana. This Boutique Resort is one of the most delightful places either of us have ever visited. Its accommodations were private and luxurious, outdone only by the personal service of the staff and the exquisite dining experience.
Each casita, though cleverly attached to one other, seemed isolated from the total of 10 that exist on this lush canopied property. They were beautifully decorated with local yet understated flair. The big bed was dressed with crisp clean cotton sheets and a snug-able down comforter which kept us warm in our climate controlled room. Each night the bed was turned down with a personal note and a special desert that seemed to be made just for us. The view from the hammock on our veranda greeted us with exotically colored birds, flowers and other fauna. From there we rarely saw another person, which made breakfast, outside in our provided robes, that much more enjoyable.
The staff at the resort all greeted us by name and with a smile. Their attention to us and our particular taste were never wanting and oftentimes executed behind the scene but never overdone. We felt as though we were welcomed, and appreciated. Everyone seemed to take pride in their jobs and in their culture. All of our questions were answered and all of our needs were met, and then some.
The food was out of this world. Breakfast was served in our room every morning to order, and from a wide selection. Lunch was usually what the kitchen had freshly prepared to order and sent with us in a basket for a picnic. The dinners were exceptional, definitively five star, served in the candle lit dining room, usually alone, by our very own waiter. Our last dinner was a romantic, fireside, five course meal.
The activities we decided to participate in were the nature hike, Mayan ruins, cave canoeing and waterfall picnic. Each was a mini adventure filled with once in a lifetime scenery. My Wife and I were led by our very own guide, Louis, who had an encyclopedic knowledge of the fauna and flora we passed on the way, and who knew answers to almost every question about the Mayan culture.
All in all we had great expectations for our honeymoon. I personally investigated countless resorts in at least 6 different countries on three different continents before deciding to take a chance on Ka’ana in Belize. Neither my wife nor I had ever been to Central America nor had we known anyone to have visited Belize. Needless to say, when I surprised her, at the airport I was a bit concerned, to say the least, about whether it was the best place to share the first days of our married life together. It exceeded my expectations! I know one thing, I will be back to Ka’ana.
