When guests at Ka'ana reserve a one- or two-bedroom villa, they enjoy the added perk of personal butler. Available to arrange anything from breakfast in bed to a private tour of Maya ruins, Ka'ana's butlers serve as an extra concierge of sorts during your stay in Belize, and always greet visitors with a genuine service-first attitude. Many repeat visitors will recognize Amin Vasquez, as a highlight of their visit. Born on the northeast coast of Belize in Corozal, the 26-year-old grew up in nearby Santa Elena—where he worked as a baker for 12 years before joining us at Ka'ana in December 2015.
"It's my pleasure to make sure each villa guest has a memorable experience by giving them the utmost attention," he says. At Ka'ana, that can mean helping to craft new experiences or handling any request—such as organizing helicopter tours, beach transfers, and dives to the famous Blue Hole. One particular request stands out in Amin's memory, although not one that took too much effort on his part. Once, he says one of his guests "asked me to simply treat them as a regular visitor, even though they had VIP status," he explains. "This was surprising to me, but I think that the beautiful thing about our resort is that everyone is allowed to relax and become comfortable with nature. We are equal with nature in Belize."
This is Amin's first time working as a butler—before Ka'ana, he was a baker for 12 years—but he's a fast learner. "I truly enjoy my duties, as I love caring for our guests and ensuring that all of their needs are met so that they can have a nice and relaxing stay with us at Ka'ana."
One of Amin's favorite aspects of his job is helping to craft unbelievable and authentic Belize vacations. "I enjoy teaching them things that come from my experiences. Things they may not read in a book or learn somewhere else. It's important to me to have this unique connection with each and every guest, to show them a part of Belize that I know they will love. Also, making friends with my guest is one aspect of my job I truly enjoy."
As for his favorite part of Ka'ana? "I love to see our guests happy. My greatest joy is when I get to see that I made one of our guests smile. That is what makes me know that this is the type of job for me – the perfect fit for me. I love what I do, and I do what I love."
