Community Clean Up with Ka'ana Resort

Our Community

At our eco-luxury resort, we believe in the power of giving back to our local community. We are deeply invested in a variety of initiatives that contribute positively to the environment and the people around us. From tree planting drives and garbage clean-ups to recycling projects, we strive to foster a healthier, greener environment for all. Recognizing the value of education, we supply local schools with much-needed school supplies, and we extend our care to local animal shelters, promoting kindness towards all creatures.

We go the extra mile by supporting causes that resonate with our values, acknowledging that the preservation of the environment, cultural diversity, and strong relationships with our employees, customers, and partners are vital for a sustainable future. We are committed to preserving and nurturing these aspects, recognizing their inherent importance to our community and the world on a whole.
The Green Team at Ka'ana Resort

The Green Team

The dynamic Green Team at Ka'ana Resort is the cornerstone of our sustainability commitment, driving us towards sustainable growth and preservation of culture and environment. Their role involves creating and executing green initiatives that align with our Sustainability Policies, thus crafting a future where luxury blends seamlessly with eco-consciousness. Through our annual Sustainability Reports, we evaluate and continually refine these initiatives. The Green Team ensures our resort's adherence to all Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations, champions our employees' rights, and encourages our partners to follow suit. They play an instrumental role in enlightening our guests and staff about our sustainability efforts and how to incorporate similar practices into their own lives. Furthermore, they carefully oversee our usage of natural resources, including water, electricity, butane, gas, diesel, and waste, reinforcing our commitment to minimal environmental impact.

And to help support this cause, we are giving all CAWS members

  • 20% off our dinner menu
  • 50% off local drinks and house wine weekly from 5-7PM

We continue to support the care and treatment of the animals in our community.  To learn more about donation, adopting or how you can help, visit their website here.

Pack For A Purpose At Ka'ana Resort San Ignacio, Cayo

Pack For A Purpose

In 2011, our staff decided that as part of our giving-back initiatives, they would do something for the children of a nearby school, Holy Cross School in Calla Creek. After visiting the school and seeing the poor conditions of the restroom facilities for the pre-schoolers, Ka'ana decided a reconstruction project would be the first of many improvements we'd be making in the school.

The school has since become very dear to us, and when guests heard about what the staff was doing they wanted to help out, too. Many guests sent down much-needed supplies for the school that many parents simply cannot afford to purchase. And so our pet project had taken off!

Over the years we've joined Pack for a Purpose and, with the help of our guests and friends of the school, we've launched new initiatives such as another bathroom for the older kids, an organic garden to promote sustainability and nutrition, and a sports program.

You can too particpate by seeing what extra space you have in your luggage can make a difference in the life of a child.  To learn more about what you can bring visit the Pack for a Purpose site.

Belize Wildlife Clinic At Ka'ana Resort San Ignacio, Cayo

Belize Wildlife Clinic

The Belize Wildlife Clinic is an organization that we are very passionate about.  Our resort is located in the midst of the jungle surrounded by all the beautiful wildlife Belize has to offer, and it's of utmost importance to us that the wildlife be properly cared for.   Early on in 2018, we rescued an injured howler monkey that had been hit by a car right in front of the resort.  We rushed her to the Belize Wildlife Clinic where she is being cared for in the primate rehabilitation program there and is doing very well.  Along with donations we send, we also ask for regular updates on our little Howler Monkey, we lovingly now call Valiente, meaning "Brave" in Spanish.

To learn more about this incredible clinic, you can visit their website here.

Holy Cross Primary School At Ka'ana Resort San Ignacio, Cayo

Holy Cross Primary School

Holy Cross Primary School is a mere 10 minutes down the road from Ka'ana. Supporting this school has become a main initiative for the entire staff as well as friends of the resort. Of the school's 76 students, ages 4 to 13, a mere handful can afford to pay the yearly tuition. But the school doesn't turn students away. Unfortunately, its lack of resources has resulted in poor bathroom facilities, leaky roofs, an underfunded sports program, and inadequate cafeteria facilities.

Our goal is to contribute to tuition fees and raise at least US$500 to plant an organic garden on-site. Additionally, Ka'ana has committed to supporting the following programs at Holy Cross Primary School:

  • Scholarship Fund
  • Bathroom Rehabilitation Project
  • Sports Program
  • Environmental Program

We also welcome and facilitate donations (such as playground equipment and computers) and volunteer work (such as helping to refurbish classrooms) at the school.
