Sustainability

This region, its cultures and its history help to define us and as such we would be remiss if we did not pay tribute, honor and protect what we've been gifted with.

Adopt-a-School Program: Succotz Primary School

This school is a mere ten minutes down the road from Ka'ana and has become a primary initiative for the entire staff as well as friends of the resort. Of the 360 students, age 4-13, that attend Succotz Primary School, a mere handful can afford to pay the US$18.00 yearly tuition. As a result, instead of turning the students away, the lack of resources has resulted in poor bathroom facilities, leaking roofs, a fledgling sporting program, and inadequate cafeteria facilities.

The Special 2011 Holiday Gift Donation Drive

When we began in 2011, all the preschoolers shared a port-a-potty and the older students shared one single, poorly functioning toilet. Earlier this year we succeeded in building a new toilet facility for the pre-schoolers, and their appreciation has spurred us on. We’re now working to achieve the second part of our goal: to build a bathroom facility for the remaining 300 students. Our goal is to raise US$3,000, which will construct a new sanitary facility featuring seperate boys and girls bathrooms with full plumbing and electricity. Donors will receive an e-voucher  for their donation which can be personalized and shared. Click here to support this cause.

Year-round Initiative

Ka'ana has committed to supporting the following programs at Succotz Primary School:

  • Scholarship Fund
  • Bathroom Rehabilitation Project
  • Sports Program
  • Nutrition Program.

We also welcome and will facilitate donations or volunteer work at the school such as playground equipment, the refurbishment of classrooms, purchasing computers and so on.

Local

One of our greatest advantages at Ka’ana is our proximity to the local towns of San Ignacio, Santa Elena, Succotz and Benque as well as the many touring attractions available in Western Belize. We created Ka’ana using locally crafted woods, art and music and we are proud to offer many truly local experiences.
