Ancient ruins, immense jungles, staggering wildlife...there's so much to experience in Belize. That's why we're thrilled to announce several new offerings here at Ka'ana, which will help guests enjoy a richer, more meaningful journey to our verdant corner of the world.
For starters, we're inviting travelers to take their explorations airbound, with our new tours from Astrium Helicopters. These high-flying adventures allow for a birds-eye view of Belize, with multiple options depending on where you want to go. In one all-encompassing tour, you'll travel by helicopter, canoe and zip-line to reach Barton Creek's underground caves, long believed by the Maya to be Xibalba, the Underworld. Other tours see guests fly over waterfalls—including the largest in Central America—that course through jungle mountains. Still more head to the sea, flying above the legendary Great Blue Hole and Belize's Barrier Reef. Each tour has optional add-ons to get a closer look, too. From cave tubing, airboat rides, and Maya ruin tours, the opportunities are endless.
And guests now have access to another helicopter tour as well. Our newest tour takes travelers back in time to the largest Maya cities known to have existed, now named El Mirador, in Guatemala. The ancient city flourished between 200 BC and 150 AD, and spanned 38 square-miles. The city was home to a staggering 100,000 residents, and had a 10 square-mile civic center with thousands of monumental buildings, including several of the grandest pyramids in the world, one rising 230 feet. Today, it's only accessible by air, and Ka'ana guests can fly there for an exclusive walking tour of the ancient capital, which was only rediscovered in 1926.
Travelers looking to keep both feet on the ground can embark on two new hiking tours. One will take guests to the beautiful Guanacaste National Park, with its incredible birdwatching, rugged trails, and lush landscapes. Another will see trekkers hike at Black Rock Lodge "Vaca Falls." Here guests will trek down to Macal River, canoe across, and hike up to a point with spectacular views and end with lunch at the lodge or picnic along the river. All are an exciting, and gorgeous way to see more of Belize.
Of course, exploring a new country is often about self discovery, too. This month, guests who are at Ka'ana during the solstice on June 21 will be able to join us for a Maya blessings ceremony, offering food to the ancient gods. Beyond the solstice, we're also excited to let guests experience an authentic Maya cleansing ritual led by a shaman. It's a deeply meaningful ceremony, popular both with couples embarking on a new stage of their relationship and individuals seeking a fresh outlook, starting right here in Belize.
