After the "I Do" - A Romantic Honeymoon in Belize

Planning a honeymoon is by far the most enjoyable part of the wedding planning process. When the I Do's and celebrations are said and done, there's no doubt that you will appreciate prioritizing this time for romantic rest and relaxation with your new spouse.

Like each relationship, a honeymoon should be completely unique. Though some honeymoon itineraries may seem more traditional than others, there is no cookie-cutter honeymoon. Each couple departs on their honeymoon with their own objectives and ideals in mind. Some may be seeking thrilling adventures, some may simply be looking to step away from the day-to-day and immerse their new love in a brand new culture and lifestyle. Others may be searching for a little R&R, soaking up the sun while basking in their brand new love.

An Extraordinary Elopement

This was the aim for newlyweds Rebecca and Kieron Lennan as they honeymooned at Ka'ana Resort. This unique couple opted for a trendy, tropical, modern elopement and an equally unique and private honeymoon. For their elopement, the Lennans chose the natural beauty of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve near San Ignacio. After 10 years together, these highschool sweethearts pledged their love and commitment to one another with a few close friends, a stunning exotic flower wreath in place of a traditional bouquet, and the romantic rolling Pine Ridge hills in the background. After the ceremony, they stopped in various spots in the Pine Ridge Reserve for some breathtaking photo ops with local wedding photographer, Monica Gallardo. "The ceremony was intimate, private, and so unique. It was everything we could have hoped for or dreamed of", they said. "With the dramatic rolling hills, waterfalls, forests, and stunning dirt roads, we thought Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve would be the perfect place for our wedding day, and we were not disappointed!"

A Relaxing Honeymoon in Ka'ana's One Bedroom Villa.

The First Impression

Arriving at Ka'ana Resort, The Lennan's looked forward to a honeymoon that would be unique and private, much like their I Do's. Greeted by General Manager Wolfang Brandl at the front desk, the couple enjoyed refreshing welcome drinks as they toured the Resort.  "From the moment we arrived we were surprised to find such quiet serenity throughout the resort". Rebecca and Kieron noted that the only sound surrounding them was the gentle and relaxing birdsong. After touring the resort, they were then escorted to their luxurious Villa, which they would call their "private escape" for their sweet Ka'ana honeymoon.

The Villa

Much like the rest of the resort, the couple found their private Villa to be serene and quiet — a pleasant surprise. "Since the rooms are not all together, but spaced out across the property, our Villa was so calm and peaceful. All we could hear throughout our stay was the songs of the surrounding birds and the trickling sound of the water in our private pool. It was so relaxing and refreshing to be away from all the busyness and noise of the outside world, and just focus on what matters the most to us." The Lennan's particularly enjoyed all the little "nooks" and sitting areas around their villa. From the lounge in the Master bedroom to the tanning beds near their pool and the garden deck, they made use of each space throughout their stay. "The courtyard area of our Villa was like our own private resort, which made us want to never leave! We lounged on the tanning beds with books in hand, and sat at the table in the courtyard with cocktails. In the courtyard the banana trees happened to be flowering, which attracted several hummingbirds. It was just magical." One of the most surprising details the couple enjoyed were the natural, handmade soaps in their villa. "Being that we both have very sensitive skin and can only use natural skincare, this was such a pleasant surprise for us! The handmade soap was of different scents and textures and were so gentle on our skin. A really beautiful finishing touch that shows how much Ka'ana cares about the tiny details."

The Cuisine

With the Villas own dedicated butler, Rebecca and Kieron enjoyed dining in the privacy of their plush jungle villa, as well as dining in our onsite restaurant, La Cieba. "The eggs we had for breakfast were so delicious. We loved that Ka'ana has their own laying hens and vegetable garden. Since our diet is mainly plant-based, organic produce is so important to us both." For breakfast, the bride chose an omelette with traditional Belizean fry jacks and beans, which she described as the "perfect Belizean breakfast". The groom chose a classic banana pancake breakfast with caramel sauce and fruits. For a nutritious start to the day, they opted for our "Green Juice", a superfood blend of chaya, pineapple, honey and banana . "With Kieron being a chef by trade, food is so important to us. We really enjoy trying new dishes as well as digging into traditional comfort foods. Ka'ana did such an excellent job with traditional Belizean Sere." The couple described this classic Belizean coconut soup with fish as their "favorite dinner" at La Cieba. If spending their days with relaxing luxury and gourmet food wasn't enough, The Lennan's were pleasantly surprised to find a treat waiting when they returned from dinner. "The bedtime treats from the Chef came as such a surprise, and were so delicious. The best ending to each perfect day at Ka'ana."
