Today Belize mourns the loss of its Father and First Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price, who passed away early this morning – two days before the 30th Anniversary of our independence.
Being the first Prime Minister of Belize, he is considered to be one of the chief engineers of the country’s independence and referred to as the Father of the Nation. Born on January 15, 1919 to Irene and William Price in what was once the Old Capital, he entered the realm of politics at the age of twenty-eight with his election to the Belize City Council. On September 29, 1950, three years later, he co-founded the People’s United Party (PUP), which he manned for four decades and which was devoted to the economic and political independence of the British colony, then known as British Honduras.
On behalf of the Management and Staff of Ka’ana, we’d like to extend our sincere condolences to his family and the nation of Belize.
