All our tour guides are hand-selected for their knowledge of all parts of the Cayo district. But some become famous among our guests for one passion in particular. For Eddy Estrada, it’s the birds.
Belize is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over over 587 different species of gloriously colorful winged beauties covering our jungles. And Eddy is the man to go with if you want to catch sight of a Scarlet Macaw or colorful Honeycreeper or Motmot.
We sat with Eddy to talk about what he loves most about showing off these treasures to our visitors.
How many years have you been a tour guide and what made you interested in becoming one?
I have been a tour guide for the past five years, but I’ve been involved in tourism for over a decade. What made me become a tour guide was interacting with visitors to Belize and sharing my knowledge of my country with them. Our country is so beautiful and their are many things to make their experience un-Belizable!
What do you enjoy most about being a tour guide?
EVERYTHING! I love sharing my culture, the caves, the archeological sites and especially the adventures with the birds.
What do you love most about taking Ka’ana guests on adventures?
I have the chance to meet people from all over the world – some of them are serious, some are funny and some a bit demanding but all are great people who share their world with me, as I do with them.
What do you think makes Cayo such a special place to visit?
What makes Cayo truly special are our many archeological sites, deep caves and of course the birding that’s becoming more and more popular in Belize every year!
What should guests expect when booking a tour with Ka’ana?
Guest should expect the best when they book a tour at Ka’ana. All of us guides are professional and have a great passion for our jobs – we give them the best of ourselves and the country to make sure they enjoy their tours.
